The Apóstol Felipe was one of the six galleons that Martín de Arana built for King Philip IV of Spain. It was part of the “Gallions of the Plata”.
This type of galleon was used to transport goods and treasures on the Route to the Indies. Its first voyage as part of the galleon fleet was made in 1629, it transported treasures to Spain.

It was an Almiranta ship of the Armada de la Guardia until 1633. It participated in the Brazilian War to recover Pernambuco and transported troops and money to Flanders, taking part in the Battle of the Dunes.
