Used initially as coastal boat, he was then intended and equipped for scientific observations which led him, across the Atlantic and the Pacific., The most distant lands.
To make it easier to steer the ship along the barrier reefs of the Pacific Islands, we added a mizzen that transformed the Beagle in a barque.
In consideration for peaceful purposes shipments cannons were removed.
