This box contains company men (or hat men) from a typical British regiment of the war. The flank companies of the regiments were detached to form combined battalions of light infantry and grenadiers.
They are shown with field-cut greatcoats and wear three types of hat: the typical hat, the flat-brimmed hat and the 'Saratoga hat', cut from a flat-brimmed hat. They may be dedicated either to the charge or to the trail (probably the most common drill position when operating in wooded countryside).
They also wear the typical gaiter trousers or American trousers, which became very popular during the war. The officers are dressed in simple undress jackets, which were very popular in the field.
