Product description : Saab AJS-37 Viggen "Show must go on"
The Saab 37 Viggen was an aircraft that was ahead of its time. Its designers used an unorthodox design that allowed the aircraft to meet all the requirements placed on it and even exceed them in some parameters.
The Swedish Air Force ordered several versions of the Viggen.
Their basic design formed a universal platform that, with the help of special equipment, allowed the aircraft to be used for various purposes.
The aircraft was powered by a Volvo RM8 turbofan, a license-built variant of the Pratt and Whitney JT8D with the addition of an afterburner and thrust reverser unit, which, in addition to the double delta wing design, improved the aircraft's performance on takeoffs and short landings on runways.
For better handling of the Viggen at temporary airfields, when being towed into their hangars, or even for easy hiding, the fin could be folded away.
The avionics used in the Viggen were among the best in the world at the time and the VIggen was also the first aircraft ever to have avionics equipped with integrated circuits.
Initially, the Swedish military received the AJ 37 version, which was gradually followed by the two-seat trainer aircraft SK 37, the reconnaissance aircraft SF 37 with cameras in the modified nose section and the anti-ship version SH 37 with different avionics and air transport capability to sea.
Approximately ten years after the first Viggens entered service, the second generation airframes followed in the form of the JA 37 fighter.
The first Viggen to serve as a ground attack aircraft was the AJ 37 Viggen, which was later converted to the AJS 37 Viggen.
One of them was painted red in the anniversary style, had lots of white ghost figures and was named “Show Must Go On”.
