SOPWITH CAMEL F1
An exceptional airplane translated into an extraordinary 1:16 scale model A 1:16 scale wood and metal replica as detailed as the real airplane There has never been a model airplane as detailed as the Model Airways Sopwith Camel.
We've captured virtually every detail of the original to replicate this legendary aircraft as a historically accurate 1:16 scale replica.
An exceptional kit, faithful to the original The real Sopwith Camel had no plastic parts.
Our model either.
The kit reproduces every part of the Sopwith in materials very similar to those used in the original aircraft.
The components are first class, starting with hundreds of aircraft grade birch and linden parts (much higher than balsa) laser cut for the ribs and fuselage.
A perfectly sized Clerget 9-B rotary engine with cylinders, distributor and crankcase is assembled from over 70 precision cast Britannia metal parts.
Over 350 other fine-scale Britannia metal, brass and rubber pieces, as well as copper wire reproduce virtually every detail.
No Modeling Experience Required Even if you've never built a model before, you can build the Sopwith Camel.
Five blueprints and 44 pages of step-by-step instructions with clear drawings and photographs show you the way to a genuinely detailed museum-quality model.
A BRIEF HISTORY As the successor to the Pup, the Sopwith Camel entered service with the Royal Navy squadron in July 1917.
It was designed to help the British take control of the skies over the trenches of the First World War.
The Sopwith Camel achieved 1,294 victories, more than any other type of Allied aircraft.
The Sopwith Camel was the first British fighter to install twin synchronized Vickers .303 machine guns in front of the cockpit.
A fairing surrounding the barrel installation created a hump, giving the Camel its name.
The Sopwith Camel F.1 had a wingspan of 28 feet, a length of 18 feet 9 inches, and was powered by a 130 hp 9-cylinder Clerget rotary engine, producing a top speed of 101-113 mph.
The 26 gallon fluid capacity allowed for 2.5 hours of flight time.
Spirited and temperamental, the Camel had mean torque and was difficult to ride.
In fact, more men have lost their lives learning to fly it than using it in combat.
But in the hands of an experienced pilot, the Camel was a deadly adversary in aerial combat.
His greatest glory came on April 21, 1918 when he slaughtered the famous German Red Baron.
KIT FEATURES Realistic structural static model without fabric cover reproducing virtually every detail of the actual aircraft Over 150 laser-cut birch parts for the wings and fuselage Over 70 Britannia metal parts for the construction of the Clerget engine, with cylinders, magneto and radiator Precise scale brass and steel parts, plus copper wire to reproduce fine detail A step-by-step illustrated instruction manual will help novice and expert modelers to achieve a museum-quality model Five sheets very detailed full-size blueprints Model Airways Model aircraft kit # MA1030 Wingspan 21 "Fuselage length 14-1 / 16" Scale 1:16 (3/4 "1 '0") Difficulty level: intermediate level
Scale : 1:16
The scale 1:16 is used for large figures, but also for model cars and armored vehicles.
A 1:16 scale model will be 16 times smaller than the original.
For example, a car with an actual length of 4m will be 10 inches / 25 cm long in the 1:16 scale (400/16 = 25).
The figures in the scale 1:16 are about 5 inches / 12cm high.
Type of product : Airplane model kit
