Astérix is a Franco-Belgian comic strip series created in 1959 by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo. It features the humorous adventures of a little Gaul named Asterix and his best friend, Obelix, as they battle against the invading Romans.

The plot of each album generally revolves around a quest or mission, which leads Asterix and Obelix to travel to different countries or regions of ancient Europe, such as Brittany, Switzerland, Egypt and Spain. The characters encountered in their adventures are often caricatures of national stereotypes, such as Belgians, Swiss or Spaniards.

Asterix albums are known for their humor, social satire and sense of parody, as well as their frequent use of puns and historical references. The main characters are Asterix, the little Gaul endowed with superhuman strength thanks to a magic potion prepared by the druid Panoramix, and Obelix, his friend and fellow adventurer, who is also famous for his love of wild boars and his physical strength.

Other important characters in the series include the druid Panoramix, who prepares the magic potion, the Gallic chief Abraracourcix, the bard Assurancetourix, the Roman Caius Bonus and the Roman spy Doublepolémix. The Asterix albums have been a great success with the public and have been translated into many languages.

In addition to comic books, the series has also inspired several animated films and film adaptations, as well as video games and merchandise such as figurines and board games. Such is Asterix's popularity that it has become a veritable symbol of French culture and Franco-Belgian humor.
