Monte Cassino 1944
Battle set with laser cut wooden abbey, German and Allied infantrymen, German and Allied tanks.
Choice of construction of the abbey: intact or damaged by the fighting.
During the Italian campaign, between January and May 1944, the Allied forces under the command of General Mark Clark opposed the German forces of the 10th Army, under the command of General Heinrich von Vietinghoff, entrenched in a defensive position along the Gustav Line.
The stronghold of the Gustav line was represented by the town of Cassino, which controlled the valley of the Liri river.
The town was overlooked by the historic Benedictine abbey of Montecassino, which constituted an important point of observation and defense for the Germans.
The strong resistance of the Germans, who held the positions for almost four months, also facilitated by the difficult climatic conditions that did not favor the allied troops, generated a series of violent clashes for the holding of the positions.
Only in mid-May the allies, with the operation "Diadem" managed to break the defensive line-up and continue the advance that led to the liberation of Rome.
