Product description : Shimakaze IJN destroyer In May 1943, the Japanese Navy's next-generation destroyer Shimakaze was commissioned at Maizuru Naval A

    Ship Model Shimakaze IJN destroyer

Destroyer IJN Shimakaze In May 1943, the Japanese Navy's new generation destroyer Shimakaze was commissioned at the Maizuru naval dockyard.

Its high temperature, high pressure Kampon boilers generated 75,000 horsepower and propelled the 3,000 ton Shimakaze at a speed then record for a Japanese destroyer of 40.9 knots; it was also an imposing offensive presence, sporting three twin 12.7 cm turrets and three quintuple torpedo tube mounts.
It wasn't long before he got into action, in July 1943 participating in the evacuation of Japanese troops from Kiska to the Aleutian Islands, and after that he was called further south, where he would eventually end in November.
1944, sunk during a transport mission to relieve the besieged garrison of Leyte Island.

The Shimakaze was set to become the only ship in its class, in part because of aircraft carriers and their planes reducing the effectiveness of destroyers, and made worse by the lack of production capacity as Japan felt the pressure of a situation worsening war.
Despite its fleeting lifespan, however, it was still able to prove itself of an interesting design, as the fastest and most powerful Japanese destroyer.

    About the model:
This is a 1/700 scale plastic model assembly kit of the Japanese Navy Destroyer Shimakaze.

    Length: 185 mm.

    - The slim shell is recreated using the left and right halves.

    - Separate deck pieces feature exquisite molding, with details such as anchor chains.

    - Slide-molded 5-inch dual-barrel turret representations provide excellent accuracy.

    - Main guns and quintuple torpedo tube supports are assembled using poly caps to allow rotation.

    - Has a faithful rendering of the bridge and the mast.
    - Decals are included in the kit to recreate linoleum deck sections and more.

    - The model ends at the waterline, allowing recreation of the Shimakaze at sea.

    Scale : 1:700
The 1:700 scale is mainly used for model ships (battleships, aircraft carriers, etc.).
A large boat that measures 300m long at full size, will be 1 foot 5 inches / 42,8cm in the scaled model (300/700 = 0.428).
Paint and glue : To be bought separately
The tools, paints and glue are not provided.
You can see our selection with the essential glues and paints or the full range..

Excellent value for money. If you want to build a super-detailed Agano class, you should probably start with the most recent Fujimi kit, but for a !build! not too demanding, the kit is perfect and the final result is more than satisfactory. *
