The Aerospatiale-Potez-Fouga (en) CM170 Magister is a subsonic jet aircraft designed in France in the early 1950s, and initially intended for the training of military pilots.
Recognizable with its tail tail in V (called butterfly), it has been manufactured to a thousand copies and used by twenty countries.
Many copies are still in use at the beginning of the XXI century.
Thanks to his abilities, the Fouga Magister has been adopted as a stunt plane for several acrobatic patrols, including the famous Patrouille de France who used it for 24 years (from 1956 to 16/9/1980).
The Fouga Magister was conceived in the Etablissements Fouga & Cie, at the beginning of the 1950s, thanks to four characters: the industrialist Gaston Fouga, the engineers Pierre Mauboussin and Robert Castello, and finally the motorist Joseph Szydlowski.
This aircraft was a response to a request from the French Air Force.
Two prototypes were made: the first with the empennage in V and the second with a classic empennage.
Despite the crash of the prototype V, this aerodynamic formula was retained for the series.
Production began in 1953, with the Air Force having ordered five pre-series and 95 series aircraft. The Fouga Magister CM 170R made its first flight at Mont-de-Marsan on July 23, 1952 at the hands of pilot Léon Bourriau who developed all the prototypes of Fouga2 establishments.
In 1954, the Fouga Magister was retained by NATO as a basic training jet.
Orders then flow from several countries, and licensed production is launched in Germany, Israel and Finland.
A total of 929 units will be built, some of which are still in service fifty years later.

Good value for money. A little more detail is missing, but it is a model of which there is not a great variety of brands. I wish it had been on a larger scale. In summary. Quite satisfied *
