The Willys MB Jeep was born in 1941 in response to a request from the American armed forces for a light all-terrain vehicle, capable of transporting troops and equipment over difficult terrain. The success of the German motorized troops during the Blitzkrieg demonstrated the importance of having fast and robust vehicles, which prompted the United States to accelerate the development of the Jeep.
Willys-Overland won the contract for the series production of this vehicle, in collaboration with Ford, under the designation Willys MB (Model B). Used in nearly every military campaign of World War II, the Willys Jeep became a symbol of Allied victory, serving as a troop carrier, command vehicle, and even a light ambulance.
With production reaching 640,000 units by 1945, the Willys Jeep proved its worth in extreme conditions and has remained an icon of mechanical ingenuity and military adaptability.
